A native of Milledgeville, Georgia, Butts is survived by her family. Before taking the helm at Georgetown in April, she served as the associate head coach at Georgia Tech, where she made significant contributions to the program. Butts had an impressive playing career at the University of Tennessee, where she helped the Lady Vols achieve notable success, including appearances in the Final Four and National Championship games. After graduating, she was drafted into the WNBA and played for teams like the Minnesota Lynx, Charlotte Sting, and Houston Comets. Georgetown University's President John J. DeGioia expressed deep sorrow over her passing, highlighting her character and the inspiration she brought to the community.
